PLANT INFORMATION

Alocasia Pink Amazonica, also known as Alocasia Pink Polly, is a tropical plant that is native to Southeast Asia. The leaves of the Alocasia Amazonica are its most striking feature, with their dark green color, bold white veins and creamy pink, white and silver variegation. The leaves are serrated and grow up to approximately one to two feet in length. The plant itself can reach a height of approximately two feet, making it more compact than the non-variegated Amazonica.

Like all Alocasia, the Amazonica's oldest leaves gradually die and fall off as the plant grows new leaves. Variegated Alocasia grow different levels of variegation with each new leaf, making for a constantly changing visual centerpiece. They are relatively easy growers once established and comfortable in their environment.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

Remember that each plant is unique, so closely monitor your plant and adjust its care based on its response. By providing the right conditions, you'll be rewarded with a stunning and healthy plant that adds a touch of tropical elegance to your indoor space.

Light

Provide bright, indirect light for your alocasia. It can tolerate lower light conditions, but its variegation will be most pronounced and attractive in moderate to bright indirect light. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight, as this can scorch the leaves.

Temperature

Maintain a comfortable room temperature between 65-80°F (18-27°C). Keep it away from cold drafts and sudden temperature fluctuations.

Watering

Allow the top inch of the soil to dry out before watering. Water thoroughly when needed, but ensure that the pot has proper drainage to prevent waterlogged roots.

Soil

Use a well-draining potting mix to prevent overwatering. A mix of potting soil and/or coco coir, perlite, and bark works well.

Fertilization

Feed your alocasia with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce or eliminate fertilization during the fall and winter when growth slows down.

Humidity

Variegated varieties of Alocasia benefit from increased humidity, typically in the 60-80 percent range. Consistent misting, using a humidity tray or humidifier can help highly variegated leaves from crisping.

Pruning

Trim any yellowing or dead leaves to maintain the plant's appearance and encourage new growth.

Potting

Repot your alocasia when it becomes root-bound or outgrows its current container. Repotting is best done in the spring.

Dusting

Dust can accumulate on the leaves, hindering their ability to absorb light. Wipe the leaves gently with a damp cloth or give the plant a shower occasionally to keep it clean.

Pests and Diseases

Keep an eye out for common houseplant pests like spider mites, thrips, aphids, and mealybugs. If you spot any pests, take action promptly with appropriate treatments.

Rotation

To ensure even growth and avoid the plant leaning towards the light source, rotate it every couple of weeks.

ABOUT OUR PLANTS

All plants are well established with healthy roots and multiple leaves (unless stated otherwise - i.e. cuttings). Our plants are all grown and maintained in our own private grow facilities in Michigan.

*Grower’s Choice. We take extra precaution when packing our items to minimize movement during shipment and to reduce the possibility of leaf breakage during transit, but we cannot guarantee that this will not happen. Rest assured that these are healthy plants and will grow new leaves. Please also note that plants occasionally experience stress during shipping and may display minor cosmetic damage.

We are not responsible for damage during shipping or unpacking, or shipping delays. No returns or exchanges.

The Terrarium ships its products with heat packs or cold packs depending on the weather at NO COST. This is a free service that we feel our customers deserve. Though we offer this service, it is important to monitor your local weather conditions as heat packs and cold packs become less effective in extreme temperatures. We will contact you to schedule a later shipping date if temperatures are too extreme to safely ship.
