Plant Information

Our Philodendron Silver Sword plants come in a clear 6” pot with aeration holes.  It also includes a bamboo support pole.  The Philodendron Silver Sword, scientifically known as Philodendron Hastatum ‘Silver Sword,’ is an elegant and striking plant within the Philodendron family.  It is recognized for its unique foliage, featuring elongated, arrowhead-shaped leaves with a silvery-blue hue.  The leaves are generally smooth, but they may have slight ripples along the edges.

This Philodendron is a climbing plant, which means it can develop aerial roots that help it cling to supports like moss poles or trellises.  As it matures, its vining nature makes it a captivating addition to both indoor and outdoor spaces.  The Philodendron Silver Sword’s distinctive silver-blue foliage and graceful growth habit make it a sought-after choice for plant enthusiasts looking to add a touch of elegance to their living space.

Care and Maintenance

Light

Provide bright, indirect light for optimal growth.  Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.  Partial shade is suitable for this plant.

Watering

Allow the top inch or so of the soil to dry out between waterings.  Water thoroughly when the soil feels dry to the touch.  Ensure good drainage to prevent overwatering.

Humidity

This Philodendron prefers higher humidity levels.  Regular misting or using a humidifier can help maintain the humidity it craves.

Temperature

Keep the plant in a warm environment, ideally between 65°F to 80°F (18°C to 27°C).  Avoid exposing it to cold drafts.

Soil

Use a well-draining potting mix that retains some moisture but doesn’t become soggy.  A mix designed for aroids or tropical plants works well.

Fertilization

During the growing season (spring and summer), feed your Philodendron Silver Sword with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks.  Reduce or stop fertilizing in the winter.

Pruning

Trim any yellowing or damaged leaves to promote healthy growth and maintain the plant’s appearance.  You can also prune to encourage branching.

Support

Since Silver Sword is a climbing plant, providing a support like a moss pole will help it grow upright and showcase its vining nature.

Pests and Diseases

Keep an eye out for common houseplant pests like spider mites, thrips, aphids, and mealybugs.  If you spot any pests, take action promptly with appropriate treatments.

Rotation

To ensure even growth and avoid the plant leaning towards the light source, rotate it every couple of weeks.

Dusting

Dust can accumulate on the leaves, hindering their ability to absorb light.  Wipe the leaves gently with a damp cloth or give the plant a shower occasionally to keep it clean.

Remember that each plant is unique, so closely monitor your plant and adjust its care based on its response.  By providing the right conditions, you'll be rewarded with a stunning and healthy plant that adds a touch of tropical elegance to your indoor space.
