Plant Information

Alocasia Frydek Albo Variegated is the rare, variegated counterpart of the unvariegated Alocasia Frydek. This plant possesses dark green leaves with white venation and a velvety texture. The variegation on the Alocasia Frydek Variegata displays different shades of cream, white, gray, and green in the form of sectoral and splash variegation. This variety of alocasia usually tops out around 3 feet in height, with a spread of 2 to 3 feet.  This plant will arrive in a 6" pot.

Like all alocasia, the variegated Pink Dragon's oldest leaves gradually die and fall off as the plant grows. They have a reputation of being somewhat finicky plants, and can be shocked by transplant, change in location or change in temperature. However, they are relatively easy growers once established, and can tolerate periods of low light or neglect.

Care and Maintenance

Remember that each plant is unique, so closely monitor your plant and adjust its care based on its response. By providing the right conditions, you'll be rewarded with a stunning and healthy plant that adds a touch of tropical elegance to your indoor space.

Light

Provide bright, indirect light for your alocasia. It can tolerate lower light conditions, but its coloration will be most pronounced and attractive in moderate to bright indirect light. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight, as this can scorch the leaves.

Temperature

Maintain a comfortable room temperature between 65-80°F (18-27°C). Keep it away from cold drafts and sudden temperature fluctuations.

Watering

Allow the top inch of the soil to dry out before watering. Water thoroughly when needed, but ensure that the pot has proper drainage to prevent waterlogged roots.

Soil

Use a well-draining potting mix to prevent overwatering. A mix of regular potting soil, perlite, and peat moss or coconut coir works well.

Fertilization

Feed your alocasia with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce or eliminate fertilization during the fall and winter when growth slows down.

Humidity

Alocasia can tolerate average indoor humidity levels. However, it may benefit from increased humidity. Misting the plant or using a humidity tray can help.

Pruning

Trim any yellowing or dead leaves to maintain the plant's appearance and encourage new growth.

Potting

Repot your alocasia when it becomes root-bound or outgrows its current container. Repotting is best done in the spring.

Dusting

Dust can accumulate on the leaves, hindering their ability to absorb light. Wipe the leaves gently with a damp cloth or give the plant a shower occasionally to keep it clean.

Pests and Diseases

Keep an eye out for common houseplant pests like spider mites, thrips, aphids, and mealybugs. If you spot any pests, take action promptly with appropriate treatments.

Rotation

To ensure even growth and avoid the plant leaning towards the light source, rotate it every couple of weeks.
