Plant Information

Plectranthus Ciliatus, commonly known as Swedish Ivy, is a tender perennial foliage plant that is grown as an ornamental. The leaves of Plectranthus Guacamole are green, and they have scalloped edges with tiny hairs. It is a robust grower with a unique shape and appearance, perfect for a home or office windowsill.

Like other plectranthus varieties, Guacamole is a relatively low-maintenance plant, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced plant caretakers. Plectranthus plants generally grow bush-style and spread out as they mature, and otherwise do not require any type of support.

Care and Maintenance

Remember that each plant is unique, so closely monitor your plant and adjust its care based on its response. By providing the right conditions, you'll be rewarded with a stunning and healthy plant that adds a touch of elegance to your indoor space.

Light

Provide bright, indirect light for your plectranthus. It can tolerate lower light conditions, but its coloration will be most pronounced and attractive in moderate to bright indirect light. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight, as this can scorch the leaves.

Temperature

Maintain a comfortable room temperature between 65-80°F (18-27°C). Keep it away from cold drafts and sudden temperature fluctuations.

Watering

Allow the top inch of the soil to dry out before watering. Water thoroughly when needed, but ensure that the pot has proper drainage to prevent waterlogged roots.  Plectranthus will generally show signs of stress when underwatered.

Soil

Use a well-draining potting mix to prevent overwatering. A mix of regular potting soil, perlite, and peat moss or coconut coir works well.

Fertilization

Feed your plectranthus with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce or eliminate fertilization during the fall and winter when growth slows down.

Humidity

Plectranthus can tolerate average indoor humidity levels. However, it may benefit from increased humidity. Misting the plant or using a humidity tray can help.

Pruning

Trim any yellowing or dead leaves to maintain the plant's appearance and encourage new growth.

Potting

Repot your plectranthus when it becomes root-bound or outgrows its current container. Repotting is best done in the spring.

Dusting

Dust can accumulate on the leaves, hindering their ability to absorb light. Wipe the leaves gently with a damp cloth or give the plant a shower occasionally to keep it clean.

Pests and Diseases

Keep an eye out for common houseplant pests like spider mites, thrips, aphids, and mealybugs. If you spot any pests, take action promptly with appropriate treatments.

Rotation

To ensure even growth and avoid the plant leaning towards the light source, rotate it every couple of weeks.
